Soft Washing Or Pressure Washing: Which Fits Your Exterior?

The surface matters more than the name of the cleaning method. Learn how material, finish and buildup help shape the right approach.

Start With The Surface

A cleaning method should fit the material being cleaned. Siding, stucco, Hardie Board, painted finishes, stone and concrete do not all respond the same way. Age, existing damage and the type of buildup matter too.

Soft washing commonly combines a cleaning solution with a lower pressure rinse. Pressure washing relies more heavily on water pressure and is generally considered for suitable hard surfaces.

When A Lower Pressure Approach May Fit

Exterior siding, stucco, painted surfaces and some stonework may call for a lower pressure approach. The goal is to address the buildup without treating every surface like a driveway. A close look at seams, joints, coatings and fragile details should come before cleaning begins.

Organic buildup, surface dirt and discoloration can look similar from a distance. Identifying the surface and condition helps prevent an overly aggressive approach.

When Pressure Washing May Fit

Durable concrete, some walkways, patios and other hard surfaces may be candidates for pressure washing. Even then the condition of the concrete, nearby landscaping, drainage and adjacent materials should be considered before work starts.

More pressure is not automatically better. The useful question is which combination of water pressure, cleaning solution, time and technique fits the surface.

What To Discuss Before Scheduling

Tell the contractor what material needs cleaning, how long the buildup has been visible and whether the surface has been painted, sealed or repaired. Share any concerns about plants, windows, outlets or access. A clear scope makes it easier to match the cleaning plan to the property.

No Pressure SoftWash reviews the surface and the condition before discussing the recommended approach.
